Next week, the two largest planets in our solar system will meet in a “great conjunction,” the closest they have appeared together in earth’s sky for nearly 800 years. On Tuesday, Jupiter’s and Saturn’s orbits will align so closely as to practically hug each other. In reality, they will be hundreds of millions mile apart in their separate orbits. It’s just from our perspective, when viewed from here on Earth, that they appear to be combining their light into one single point.
Of course, this conjunction has resulted in speculation that such an event could account for the Gospel story of the Christmas Star that the Magi followed to give their gifts to the infant Jesus. Probably not. But just like the Great Conjunction is comprised of two very different planets, during Advent we are waiting for the appearance of the Great Connection—when Mary gives birth to Jesus, the God-Man.
This weekend at Trinity Downtown, we’ll be anticipating the joy that Jesus brings to us as He moves into our neighborhood and wants to build His house in our hearts. Come join us! We offer in-person worship at our contemporary service on Saturday at 5:00 pm or our traditional worship service on Sunday at 9:00 am. Reservations are required to attend either in-person worship service; you can see the details at www.trinitydt.org. You may also make a reservation by calling Stefanie at 713.224.0684 from 8:30-2:30 each weekday. If you are not comfortable attending an in-person service, you can watch the “live stream” of our Satellite Service at 5:00 pm on Saturday, or our traditional service on Sunday at 9:00 am by clicking here. And, of course, you may also participate by watching either of these services “on demand” by clicking here.
You can deepen your understanding of God’s Word by participating in an array of virtual adult Bible studies at various times during the week. You can find the details by clicking here.
Let me give you an update on two Christmas-oriented ministry opportunities:
If you have not had an opportunity to support these opportunities to share the love of Jesus with a neighbor in need, you can give online by clicking here, drop a check into the donation box in the Narthex, or mail your check to Trinity Downtown.
