Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:
As we begin this year’s Advent season, we enter a time of waiting and anticipation. We plan the gifts that we might give our loved ones at Christmas. We anticipate the day we will be able to see family and friends that might not live in close proximity to us. Our children eagerly await the school holidays. And, of course, we look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus, and exalting in all that His birth means to us. So, we wait.
I must admit there is a part of me that hates to wait. By nature, I’m a “let’s get it done now” kind of person.
Scripture, however, is brimming with examples of how God has frequently instructed His people to wait. The children of Israel waited 400 years for God to call Moses to lead them in the Exodus from Egypt. King Saul refused to wait on God (see chapters 9-13 of 1 Samuel) and his refusals eventually cost him his kingship. Jesus told the early Christians to go and wait in Jerusalem for the gift of the Holy Spirit (which probably caused some head scratching on their part!)
So, waiting of often a vital part of God’s plan. We would be wise to listen…and wait.
This Sunday at Trinity Downtown, we will be coming together in joyful waiting and anticipation for the arrival of Our Lord. Pastor Lonnie will be proclaiming the Word in both the traditional and contemporary worship services.
Come home to Trinity this Sunday; come learn how placing your doubts, suffering, distractions, hopes, fears, uncertainties in the hands of the Lord can lessen our stress load and bring deep transformation in our hearts. Celebrate with us the depth of Jesus’ love for us and find out how you can live a life of significance, filled with meaning. Discover how following Jesus can help you and your family navigate around the minefields of life. I promise you it will make a tremendous difference in your life.
