Contentment While Living In A #Selfie World
Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:
What comes to your mind when you hear the word “contentment”? Perhaps you picture a white, sandy beach; with a blue sky above your head, your toes are wiggling in the sand and your hand is holding a cold drink. Or perhaps your mind pictures a cabin nestled high in the Rocky mountains, with snow-covered mountains in the distance. Maybe you prefer to explore a big city, and you imagine yourself absorbing the sights and sounds of London or visiting the Louvre museum in Paris.
What is it about these places that reminds us of “contentment”? Is it that they offer us a brief respite from the daily grind? Help us set aside our worries and fears, or just relax a little bit? Why are these images so attractive when we compare them with our daily lives? Is it a requirement that we must be physically located in a specific circumstance to feel contentment?
This weekend at Trinity Downtown, we are starting a new sermon series discussing how to live a Christian life in a world that is saturated with social media. This new technology provides a faster, better way for us to compare ourselves with one another. Doing so often results in discontentment; we see pictures of happy families and beautiful children and compare them with the reality that exists in our own lives. Social media lets us play “keeping up with the Jones’” on steroids.
This weekend, we’ll be discussing how we can find the type of deep contentment that Paul talks about in the verse quoted above; a contentment that is not related to where we are or what we possess. You can participate in-person at our contemporary worship service on Saturday at 5:00 pm or our traditional worship service on Sunday at 9:00 am. Don’t forget our weekly opportunities to participate in “drive-up” Communion on Wednesday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and Saturday from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. You can stay safely in your car while participating in an Order of Confession & Absolution, Communion and Prayer hosted by one of our pastors. If you wish to participate in drive-up Communion, please reserve your preferred time slot by calling Stefanie at 713.224.0684. She’s available to take your call from 8:30am – 2:30 pm each weekday

During this worrying time, come be encouraged. Come feel the warmth and joy of His Holy Spirit and hear songs that will bring peace to your heart. Come ready to digest His words of truth and be filled with the surprising love of Jesus so you can share that love and peace with everyone!
